Ruthin School Celebrates Fantastic GCSE Results

This year’s GCSE results at Ruthin School have been truly fantastic, and we could not be more delighted! 73% of all grades were 9-7 and 96% of all results were grade 9-4. Remarkably, 32% of all results were at grade 9. This is six times the national average! Based on the data for the last few years, these results place us 50% above the UK average for percentage of grades at 9-7 and 29% above the national average for grades at 9-4. Perhaps the most telling statistic, however, is that 92% of our grades are 5 or above, which is just over twice the national average! This demonstrates the wonderful job we do in supporting and building the confidence of students across the ability range, not just the more naturally academic.

These results are a testament to the hard work of our students and the dedication of their teachers. At GCSE, students are working across a wide and varied range of subjects, so achieving top grades in them all is a challenge for even the hardest-working person. We are delighted to note that 31% of our students achieved all grades at 9-7 and 11% achieved all grades at 9-8. This bears witness to the outstanding work ethic of those students.

Special congratulations also to Latin, who achieved 100% of grades at 9-7; Geography, who achieved 93% of grades at 9-7, and English Literature and History, who both achieved 90% of grades at 9-7.

There must be something in the water! We have three sets of twins in this year group, and all of them enjoyed great success. Twin sisters Amanda and Teresa achieved eleven grade 9s and 10 grade 9s respectively. Herman and Ivanna, who are from Ukraine, achieved six grade 8s and two grade 9s, and local twins Atharva and Suchi achieved nine grade 9s and six grade 8s. Special mention must also go to non-twin and local day student, Gethin, who achieved seven 9s and two 8s.

These results are not just great in themselves; more importantly, they promise so much for the future achievements of these wonderful young people. This year, we launch High Performance Learning, and it is so exciting to be doing this with such a hardworking and talented group of Lower Sixth students.”
